Kristopher Buchan, the principal broker of Tompkins Cortland Real Estate, has been involved in real estate for most of his life. Before being old enough to be licensed to sell, he helped his sister in her real estate brokerage. At the young age of 18, he was able to purchase his first rental property in Cortland, New York. Since then, he’s been managing rental properties--for more than fifteen years now., obtaining a real estate salesperson’s license in 1995, at the age of 19.
In 1995, Kristopher and a business partner purchased and operated two Taco Bell Express restaurants as well as a Pizza Hut Express restaurant. During his tenure in the restaurant business, Kristopher expanded his real estate rental business. In 1998, Kristopher relocated to Orlando, Florida. In Orlando, he obtained a Florida real estate salesperson’s license and joined the firm of X-elusive Investment Properties. Together with Phyllis Burzee, Kristopher sold both residential and commercial properties in the greater Orlando area.
Missing central New York State, Kristopher moved to Groton, New York in 2003. He purchased a Victorian home in the village and restored it to it’s original condition. A short time later, he opened the Groton Hobby Shop at 129 Main Street in Groton. The Groton Hobby Shop not only still exists, but thrives in our wonderful village. Along with operating the Hobby Shop, Kristopher worked as an Associate Real Estate Broker at Evergreene Realty in Ithaca, New York.
Kristopher believes in community service. He’s served on the Board of Trustees at the 1890 House in Cortland and held several offices in the organization including that of Vice President. He currently chairs the Events committee for the 1890 House. Mr. Buchan is also a member of the Groton Rotary Club. He served on the board of the Groton Business Association and served as the president of the board in 2007. During his tenure as board president, several goals of the GBA were met including building of the Village Information Kiosk.
At the end of 2009, Tompkins Cortland Real Estate was opened by Mr. Buchan. We’re located in his beloved village of Groton at 110 Main Street, next to Dempsey Insurance. Kristopher’s goal with Tompkins Cortland Real Estate is to help bring home ownership to as many people as possible while adhering to standards of conservation, remaining committed to using recycled products, and encouraging a “green” lifestyle in order to maintain the natural beauty of our area.
